Anand – Gelfand, Game 10

Game 10 of the World Championship was another triumph for Boris Gelfand’s superb opening preparation with Black. Vishwananthan Anand tried another opening in this one, the Rossolimo Sicilian with 3.Bb5. But he found Gelfand well prepared with the rare 5…e5 and then the new move of 8…d5.

I do find it slightly strange that Anand abandoned his successful 3.f3, but maybe he’s playing it safe so as to reach the rapid play tie break, quite a forte of his.
