Gelfand – Anand, Game 7

Boris Gelfand drew first blood in the World Championship yesterday with a shock victory in game 7. Adopting a different approach against Vishwanathan Anand’s habitual 5…a6 he held an advantage in the early middle game. The exchange of queens did nothing to ease Black’s troubles and White capped the game off by setting up a mating net:

This should certainly bring the match to life as Anand must win one of the next 5 games.
