India finished on top at the World Youth Chess Championships held at Maribor in Slovenia on Sunday. With a total of eight medals in pockets each including three gold, two silvers and three bronze ones India shared honours with Russia.

R Vaishali of India became world champion in girls under – 12 category
M Mahalakshmi of India became world champion in girls under – 14 category
N Priyanka of India was the winner in girls under – 10 sections.
Aravindh Chithambaram was leader before last round, in last round he lost to an American opponent and settle for sliver in the boys under – 14 Category.
Girish Koushik got sliver medal under – 16 boys section.
Monnisha and Riya Savant bagged the bronze
in the girls under-14 and under-12 categories, respectively, while Trichy’s LN Ram Aravind finished third in the boy’s under-10 section
This was all about young guns while in Fujairah International Open chess tournament Indian Grandmaster Sandipan Chanda stunned top seed Baadur Jobava. Jobava tried innovative chess with black pieces which actually benefited to Sandipan. Jobava, who is a member of the 2700 rating club, went for an early King side opening by way of pushing pawns but the fail to materialise it. The Indian benefited by an oversight to reach a winning endgame. He won in 50 moves. Another Indian GM Ganguly Surya Shekhar drew with Bacrot Etienne (2700 Rating club). Both are with 5 points among the top seven (All with 5 points). Coming rounds will decide the champion.
