John Lee Shaw is a writer and Virtual Assistant. He is also a passionate chess enthusiast. Since discovering our beautiful game at school, over a quarter of a century ago, his love for the game has not waned even slightly. He finds chess one of his favourite subjects to study, particularly the deep analysis of positions and master games. He likes to keep the use of chess engines to a minimum, using them only to double-check his analysis and instead focuses on the human and psychological aspects of the game and the battle of minds.
John has been ‘retired’ from competitive chess for over a decade, much preferring to play for fun, mainly by means of online correspondence chess. He remains a keen chess writer and commentator, as well as writing for The Chess Improver, he writes for his own chess news website, Hot Off The Chess.
