I am a father of four and a philosophy professor from Canada who took up chess later in life. During the day I teach ethics, logic, and the history of ideas to students by discussing the writings of the great philosophers, and during the evening I learn ethics, logic, and the history of ideas by studying the ways thirty-two wooden pieces collide on sixty-four black and white squares.
On the weekends I run a free chess program for local kids ages 4 to 12. I owe much of my slow but steady progress in the game of chess to the online teaching materials created by GM Nigel Davies, so it’s an honour to be a contributor to his excellent site.
