Steve Giddins is a FIDE Master from England, and one of the country’s best known chess authors. As a player, he twice appeared in the British Championship and reached a peak FIDE rating of 2376. He has had twelve books on the game published, many of which have been highly praised by different reviewers, and his 2006 book, 50 Essential Chess Lessons, was short-listed for the Chess Café Book of the Year award.
Having lived and worked in Moscow for a number of years, he is a fluent Russian speaker and is highly familiar with the training methods of the Soviet/Russian school of chess. He has translated almost 30 books from Russian into English for various publishers. He is also a prolific chess journalist, a former editor of the British Chess Magazine, and has been a frequent contributor to Chess and to websites such as Chessbase.
