India was host for the TATA 14th IBCA chess Olympiad at Chennai where Russia team win the Gold medal, winning 7 of their 9 matches. Ukraine took the silver medal and Spain the bronze.
The competition took place from 10-19 August. Total 24 countries and 25 teams had been participated (India the host were having 2 teams). India improved from the best showing of 16th place to fifth place this time.
Russia have won this 5th time earlier they had won this even 6 times as a part of USSR. Only Poland won once and Yugoslavia won twice. There were two motivational speakers at the event, the World Chess Champion, Vishwanathan Anand, and India cricket God Sachin Tendulkar.
Individually IM Daniel Pulvett for Venezuela won the gold medal while Colin Crouch of the UK won the Silver medal. Here a couple of their games:
